Royalcrest bankruptcy settlement
24 Jan 08 -- Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) payouts for ONA members from nine Royalcrest facilities in Hamilton and Toronto areas.ONA achieved a RRSP settlement for registered nurses who worked for the Royalcrest chain of nursing homes (Norcliffe, Stoney Creek, St. Olga's, Townsview, Brantwood, Mississauga, Yorkview, Marnwood and Strathaven) from November 13, 2002 to May 2, 2005. This settlement is made in lieu of RRSP contributions during the insolvency period.
On May 2, 2005, the Trustee (Ernst and Young) paid $100,000 to Open Access on behalf of participating and former nursing staff. This money was allocated on a pro rata basis in respect of group RRSP plan contributions and deductions. The allocations were based upon the number of hours worked by each participating and former nursing staff member prior to May 2, 2005.
Since May 2005, Open Access and ONA have been trying to locate past ONA members to ensure they receive their entitlement including a previous article in the summer of 2006 in the ONA Vision magazine. We continue to be unsuccessful in many cases. The list that follows are members, past and present, who have not responded to our mailings.
On March 21, 2006, Open Access transferred the outstanding monies back to ONA for disbursement. We have changed the process to facilitate ensuring our members receive their money. ONA will mail cheques for individual entitlements through ADP, the payroll provider. This process will ensure that each member receives a T4 slip for February 2007.
In order to receive your entitlement, ONA requires that you provide us your full name, Social Insurance Number and current address.
The nurses listed below have not yet contacted us. If your name is on this list, please contact Leanne Cooke at ONA head office in Toronto by June 30, 2008.
