The Ontario Nurses' Association is hosting province-wide education over the phone -- called teleconnects -- in the following areas: 

The teleconnects we've had to date have been very successful. We hope to reach as many members as possible using this easily accessible method of education. Please see the information below for details for our pre-scheduled 2015 teleconnects, as well as details from our 2014 teleconnects.


Nurse Practitioner Teleconnects

Three teleconnects will be held in 2015 geared towards Nurse Practitioners. Information on the topic of each teleconnect and how to register will be emailed to leaders, posted below, and can be found in the Education Calendar in advance of each teleconnect. Materials from these sessions will be either posted below or in the Executive Members’ section of the ONA website if they’re confidential in nature.

This teleconnect will be a review for hospital Bargaining Unit leaders focusing on Collective Agreement language for job postings including the job posting process, when to file grievances, evaluating the merits of
grievances, ONA member representation (the grievor and incumbent) and grievance/arbitration outcomes. The target audiences for this teleconnect are Hospital Sector Bargaining Unit leaders and Union Representatives.

June 17, 16:30-17:45 Maximizing the Use of the PRC Clause and Job Security Provisions in the Collective Agreement in Long-Term Care (LTC) Homes
This teleconnect will focus on strategies to utilize both the Professional Responsibility Clause and the job security provisions of the Collective Agreement (in the Nursing Homes Articles 2.04, 2.05 and 2.06) to ensure quality workplaces and resident outcomes. The teleconnect will provide tips and tactics to ensure that Bargaining Unit leaders understand these provisions and maximize staffing in long-term care homes.

2014 MEET Teleconnects

April 23, 17:00 – 18:30 Internal Responsibility System (IRS)
In this teleconnect, users learned: 1) defined the IRS, 2) explored the roles and responsibilities of the employer, the Joint Health and Safety Committee and the worker, 3) examined the characteristics of a successful IRS, and 4) explored the role of the Ministry of Labour within the IRS.

May 27, 17:00 – 18:30 Election Process at the Local and Bargaining Unit Level
In this teleconnect, the learner: 1) identified what positions exist at the Local Executive Committee level, 2) identified what committees exist at the Bargaining Unit level, 3) understood how the elections are timed, 4) discussed the need for Local election policies, 5) learned about the role of the Local and Bargaining Unit Election Committee, and 6) examined the nominations and election process.
