ONA Base Plan

Base Plan Overview

As health care professionals, Members face personal health risks. The ONA Base Plan, supported through dues, provides all Members with $5,000 of Hepatitis C coverage and a flat amount of HIV coverage ($40,000 for Members with, or $20,000 for Members without, employer-sponsored Long Term Disability coverage).

In addition to the risk of infection from HIV and Hepatitis C, Members also face the risk of loss of income due to the inability to work as a result of illness or injury. For Members without employer-sponsored Long Term Disability (LTD) coverage, the ONA Base Plan includes $250 of monthly LTD benefit. Base Plan disability income protection is the first step towards protecting one of your most valuable assets — your income!

Hepatitis C Coverage

In keeping with ONA’s vision and commitment to their members’ advancement of the social economic and general welfare, we are pleased to announce, effective February 1, 2005, all dues-paying members within the ONA Benefit Program are insured for Hepatitis C coverage (at no additional cost to members). The Hepatitis C benefit is being provided on an occupational basis, providing a one-time lump sum payment of $5,000 per member.

As trailblazers in providing HIV coverage to our members, again we find ourselves at the forefront of providing a new and innovative benefit to meet the needs of our members. We are proud to announce that the ONA Benefit Program is the first group insurance plan, and more exclusively – ONA is the first nurses’ union, in Canada to provide Hepatitis C coverage to its members!
