The facts about the defined benefit plans and other pension-related info
July 05, 2013
July 7, 2013: OMERS UPDATE - A message from ONA President Linda Haslam-Stroud: I recently put out an alert that the OMERS sponsors committee was considering a number of retrogressive changes to the OMERS plan that were put forward by a group of Employer nominees.
These proposed changes included:
-reduction in the pension benefit formula.
-reduction or elimination of the guaranteed 100% inflation protection.
-reduction in the current benefit entitlement pertaining to early retirement.
Even on short notice many of you took the time to directly write to OMERS expressing your disapproval with these changes and urged the committee to reject them. You asked the committee to engage in more formal consultations with plan members before even considering changes of this magnitude.
I am pleased to advise you that the committee DID NOT pass any of the proposed changes. Many thanks to all of you for your advocacy. Your voices were obviously heard and OMERS members have been well served by your efforts.
