Description:
Workshop Length: Two Days

Purpose: To assist participants to function in the area of grievance arbitration at a higher level and positively influence bargaining unit functioning, effectiveness and increase membership satisfaction.

Focus:

  • Laws affecting ONA members
  • Duty of fair representation
  • Understanding the contents of a collective agreement
  • General principles of interpreting a collective agreement
  • Filing a grievance
  • Understanding roles and accountabilities of grievance representatives
  • Developing job descriptions for the Grievance Chair and the committee members
  • Arbitration – beyond the final step meeting
Who Should Attend: The workshop is designed for Grievance Committee members, unit representatives and novice executive team members. A basic knowledge of ONA would be advantageous This could be accomplished by attending the “Bargaining Unit Structure” and “The Grievance Process Workshop.”
