Workshop Length: One Day
Purpose: To increase participants' awareness of health and safety in the workplace, to discuss the legislation impacting health and safety and the roles and responsibilities of the workplace parties.
Focus:
- The legislation that impacts health and safety in the workplace including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workers Safety Insurance Act , and the Human Rights Code
- The structures in the workplace and the union that support health and safety
- The Internal Responsibility System and the roles and responsibilities of the workplace parties in ensuring its effectiveness
- Health and safety hazards, including hazards specific to health care
- Workplace inspection and the role of membership in relation to inspections
- The process to follow in case of workplace injury
- The obligations of the workplace parties in accommodation
- The barriers to accommodation of disabled workers and strategies to reduce barriers
Who Should Attend: Workshop is designed for general membership, novice Health and Safety Representatives and bargaining unit leaders.
