Description:
Workshop Length: Two Days

Purpose: To assist participants to understand the structure of collective agreements, how legislation impacts the contract and to begin to develop basic contract interpretation skills.

Focus:

  • The legislation affecting ONA members e.g., Labour Relations Act, Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, etc.
  • Structure and standard clauses of a collective agreement
  • The rules for drafting collective agreement provisions
  • The principles of contract interpretation and their application in various provisions in hospital, nursing home and community collective agreements
Who Should Attend: This workshop is designed for Grievance Committee members, novice Bargaining Unit Presidents and Negotiating Team members and general membership who have a basic understanding of their rights as union members. This could be achieved by attendance at a “Know Your Rights” Workshop.
