Description:
Workshop Length: One Day

Purpose: To increase participants' awareness of health and safety in the workplace, to discuss the legislation impacting health and safety and the roles and responsibilities of the workplace parties.

Focus:

  • The legislation that impacts health and safety in the workplace including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workers Safety Insurance Act , and the Human Rights Code
  • The structures in the workplace and the union that support health and safety
  • The Internal Responsibility System and the roles and responsibilities of the workplace parties in ensuring its effectiveness
  • Health and safety hazards, including hazards specific to health care
  • Workplace inspection and the role of membership in relation to inspections
  • The process to follow in case of workplace injury
  • The obligations of the workplace parties in accommodation
  • The barriers to accommodation of disabled workers and strategies to reduce barriers

Who Should Attend: Workshop is designed for general membership, novice Health and Safety Representatives and bargaining unit leaders.
