Workshop Length: Two Days
Note: A two-day session reviewing the negotiation process, roles and responsibilities, developing proposals and establishing priorities may be conducted prior to commencement of negotiation
Purpose: To assist the Bargaining Unit Negotiations Committee to understand its roles and responsibilities throughout the negotiations process.
Focus:
- Team work including the roles and responsibilities of the membership negotiating team and the Labour Relations Officer
- Utilizing provincial membership research
- Strategies for Surveying Bargaining Unit Members to determine priorities
- Gathering documentation to support demonstrated need
- Negotiations Process; developing bargaining proposals
- Goals and outcomes of negotiations
- Employer/union relationship
- Arbitration/strike lockout
- Job action manual
- Communication plans to keep members informed
- Public relations strategies in right to strike sector
- Reflections process
Who Should Attend: The workshop is designed for Bargaining Unit Negotiations Committee members and general membership who have a basic understanding of their rights as union members. Its objectives could be achieved through attendance at a “Know Your Rights” Workshop.
