Labour Relations & Negotiations
Labour relations and negotiations are important parts of ONA’s role as your representative.
As members, your contract defines the parameters of your work.
As your union, it’s our job to negotiate the best contracts possible.
We continuously strive to improve and enhance your work life.
Working Together
There are twenty-five (25) bargaining units in this sub-sector. There is no central bargaining in this sector. Each agency bargains separately and therefore all our collective agreements are different with wages and working conditions varying widely from one area of the province to another.
ONA represents Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses and some allied members in this sector. These providers include the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON), Para-Med, Community & Primary Health Care and Carefor.
Our members provide care in the community such as visiting clients in their homes as well as providing shift nursing, footcare, wellness clinics, etc. These services are awarded to the agency through a RFP (Request for Proposal) process through their area CCAC.
Most of the members in this sector are part-time or casual.
Members in this sector have the right to strike if they reach an impasse in bargaining and their employers have the right to lock them out.
