Thank you. Our e-mail campaign is a success!
In March of 2011, the Ontario Nurses' Association launched an e-mail lobby campaign to stop an amendment to the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 (RHPA) that, if proclaimed as law, was to force all nurses to buy additional "personal" liability insurance, which was not necessary.
More than 3,000 of you e-mailed Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty, Ontario Minister of Health and Long-Term Care Deb Matthews and the College of Nurses of Ontario to express your concerns.
We're pleased to announce that, thanks to your great efforts, our e-mail campaign assisted with stopping this amendment from going forward.
ONA President Linda Haslam-Stroud, RN, thanked the Minister recently at our provincial meeting for not proclaiming this amendment.
This means that ONA members are not required to purchase additional personal liability insurance. You are covered by your employer's insurance and primary, and by ONA liability insurance for secondary insurance, if you meet the criteria.
Thank you!
