Professional Practice Teleconnects
All teleconnects take place at 1930 hrs (7:30 p.m.). Notices including pre-registration details will be circulated by email to leaders and posted on the website in advance of each teleconnect.
The 2013 Professional Practice Teleconnects will take place on June 17, September 16 and December 9.

ONA’s Professional Practice Specialists presented information on how to empower nurses to find their voice and advocate for supportive and healthy work environments. This included assistance with exercising the right and obligation of nurses to speak up at meetings to protect their work and meet their standards of practice.
RNs, RPNs and UCPs: New Info from the CNO
During this one-hour session, ONA’s Professional Practice Specialists explained the new College of Nurses (CNO) Practice Guidelines pertaining to the utilization of RNs, RPNs and Unregulated Care Providers (UCPs). Strategies on how to effectively utilize these documents in the Professional Responsibility Clause process to challenge inappropriate changes in staff skill mix were discussed.

A teleconnect took place on June 11 entitled, The ABCs of Long-Term Care PRCs. ONA's Professional Practice Specialists explained the revised ONA Professional Responsibility Workload Report Form (long-term care) and the newly created Decision Tree. Strategies on how to effectively utilize the PRC process and form, including how to incorporate the College of Nurses of Ontario’s (CNO) standards, were discussed.

The Ontario Nurses’ Association’s first Professional Practice Teleconnect was about skill mix change.
Moderator Vicki McKenna, RN, ONA’s First Vice-President, was joined by professional practice specialists Rozanna Haynes, Mariana Markovic, Jo Anne Shannon and Lorrie Daniels.
It is hoped that teleconnects will take place quarterly to address the hot topics of the day in professional practice.
