Windsor-Essex County Nurses to Hold Friends and Family Rally: ONA CEO, Local Politicians, Supporters to Join Nurses
March 14, 2019
WINDSOR-ESSEX COUNTY, March 14, 2019 – Striking nurses with Windsor-Essex County Health Unit will be joined on the picket line tomorrow by supporters at a Friends and Family rally.
The striking nurses will be joined by their friends, families, the CEO and board members of the Ontario Nurses’ Association, local provincial and federal politicians, and Windsor and District Labour Council President Brian Hogan in front of the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit on Ouellette Avenue.
The 86 Nurse Practitioners, Public Health Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses were forced to strike on March 8 after talks with their employer failed. The nurses have been without a contract for almost one year.
The rally begins at 11:00 am with remarks from ONA and the MP and MPPs at noon. Members of area unions will also join in, urging the employer to get back to the table.
The nurses will also wrap up their “Time for a Change” diaper drive on Friday, donating the much-needed supplies to The Downtown Mission.
ONA is the union representing more than 65,000 registered nurses and health-care professionals, as well as 18,000 nursing student affiliates, providing care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics and industry.
