Learning Objective
Build an awareness of the full breadth of powers of the JHSC, highlighting the duties and powers of workers representatives on the JHSC and the worker co-chair.
- Identify common challenges faced by ONA health and safety activists during the pandemic and share strategies used to escalate these unresolved safety issues, including how to file the complaint to the ministry, how to deal with the inspector process, and how to ensure they have what they need to confirm there are grounds for an appeal, if necessary.
- Develop an understanding of how to conduct an organizational risk assessment for infectious disease.
- Understand the role of the WSIB in the workplace, including a refresher on employee/employer obligations with regards to Forms 6, 7, the WSIB's Exposure Forms, the Health Care Practitioner Form 8, the importance of ensuring that claims are filed, and how the JHSC obtains information needed to identify hazards and use those forms to address them.
