2023 Nursing Now Ontario Awards: Celebrating Excellence in Nursing

December 13, 2022

Nominations are open for the 2023 Nursing Now Ontario Awards.

Every day, nurses across the province impact the lives of hundreds of thousands of Ontarians. In the face of immense and growing challenges across our health system, nurses remain dedicated to delivering the best care possible. They deserve recognition for the commitment and sacrifices they make to keep Ontarians of all ages healthy and well.

The Nursing Now Ontario Awards provide an opportunity to showcase nursing excellence and celebrate exceptional individuals for their contributions to Ontarians and our health system. The awards recognize a registered practical nurse (RPN), a registered nurse (RN) and a nurse practitioner (NP) who demonstrate the qualities of an exceptional nurse — high professional standards, superior clinical skills and a compassionate practice.

The Nursing Now Ontario Awards are jointly presented by the Registered Practical Nurses’ Association of Ontario (WeRPN), the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO) and the Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA). These awards were inspired by Nursing Now, a global campaign to improve health through nursing launched by the World Health Organization and the International Council of Nurses.

“Nurses continue to go above and beyond the call of duty, despite increasingly challenging environments,” says Dianne Martin, CEO of WeRPN. “We are proud to join our nursing partners to shine a light on the tremendous contributions that nurses make to our health system.”

“Ontario’s RNs, NPs and RPNs have shown time and time again that they are unwavering in their commitment to providing evidence-based and person-centered care, despite the challenges caused by an unrelenting global pandemic and a stretched health system, and that deserves celebration and recognition,” says RNAO CEO, Dr. Doris Grinspun, RN, O.ONT. “These awards honour nurses’ expertise and courage and highlight their central role in all sectors and settings.”

“The dedication nurses show and the exemplary care they provide every day is worth acknowledging,” notes ONA Interim President Bernie Robinson, RN. “Nurses are the backbone of health care, with a focus on advocating for their patients, residents and clients. That is why ONA is delighted to partner with RNAO and WeRPN to recognize our colleagues who provide such excellent, high-quality care.”

Help us celebrate Ontario’s nurses by submitting an online nomination. The deadline for nominations is Friday, Feb. 17, 2023. Entries will be judged by a volunteer panel of nurses.

The awards will be presented on Friday, May 12, 2023 during National Nursing Week.
