Ontario Nurses’ Association Welcomes New Members Paramed Home Health Care Oshawa and Lindsay Nurses Vote to Join ONA

November 21, 2017

OSHAWA, LINDSAY – The Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA) is excited to welcome 109 new members.

Registered Nurses (RNs) and Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) working to provide home-care services to patients in Oshawa and Lindsay have voted overwhelmingly in favour of joining ONA. Linda Haslam-Stroud, RN, ONA President, says she is “honoured that the nurses at Paramed Home Health Care Oshawa and Lindsay have entrusted ONA to be their voice.

“ONA is the union of choice for nurses and health-care professionals, and we do our very best to be a strong advocate for members and their patients,” she said. “ONA has consistently spoken out about the need for more front-line RNs and RPNs to provide home-care services for those who require it.”

The Union represents members in all sectors of health care. Haslam-Stroud notes that skilled and educated home-care providers are increasingly needed to provide that care, as our hospitals seek to discharge patients quickly.

“Quality community care is vital to patients, who in the past would have received care in hospital,” she says. “As our health-care system continues to rely more heavily on care in the community, it is vital that home-care providers have the supports they need to provide the best care possible. We are proud to welcome Oshawa and Lindsay Paramed nurses to ONA and look forward to providing excellent services and representation to them,” she said.

ONA is the union representing 65,000 registered nurses and health-care professionals, as well as 16,000 nursing student affiliates, providing care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics and industry.
