MEDIA STATEMENT: Regarding Roberta Place COVID-19 outbreak

January 19, 2021

The Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA) is deeply concerned about the extremely serious and fast-spreading outbreak of COVID-19 at Roberta Place long-term care home.

We believe that COVID-19 can become aerosolized, and we call on the implementation of the precautionary principle. We know from SARS that we should not wait for the science before taking every precaution possible to keep staff – and residents – safe.

ONA is calling for the proactive provision of the highest level of personal protective equipment – N95 respirators or better – for every health-care worker and individual entering this home.

- Vicki McKenna, RN, President, Ontario Nurses’ Association
