September 7, 2023 – The Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA) supports the full implementation of the Ombudsman’s recommendations to ensure that long-term care inspectors are given the proper and in-depth training, tools and PPE to carry out their jobs in helping to protect residents.
TORONTO, ON, September 1, 2022 – The Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA) is alarmed by the announcement of the province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health that infected patients must no longer isolate for five days and can resume activities after just 24 hours, whether continuing to test positive for COVID-19 or not. Moore added that Ontario hospitals have the capacity to care for more patients infected with the coronavirus.
ONA is aware of Premier Ford’s plea for volunteers to assist with staffing COVID-19 immunization clinics. We have engaged with the government on numerous occasions when our members have been called on for various reasons during the pandemic and most recently related to the call for retirees to also staff COVID-19 clinics. We have consistently raised two issues: compensation and liability.
